The Era of Remote & Hybrid Work Model In Organization
Introduction
Organizations are evolving to meet the needs of the company stakeholders,mainly concerns of the their customers and employees.As considering of the employees who are given most contribution to company most of companies considered their healthily performance and wellbeing.
There's a shift from traditional ways of working to more technology-driven approaches, with a focus on employee work-life balance and performance. Hybrid models, combining in-office and remote work, are now common in the organizations, especially in the IT, marketing sector. However, the COVID-19 pandemic caused a sudden global change, drastically altering how organizations operate. This affected to everything from how work is done to communicate, working hours, evaluation of the employees job performance and how do the relationship between others employees as well.
Organizations are forced to implement the hybrid model to meet the changing needs of the business to ensure the business runs on its own and employees are performing at their best. The digital transformation has become the medium of choice for organizations to integrate the office workplace and flexible working hours. Employees nowadays prefer to work from home because technology allows them to work from anywhere while still having time to care for their families.

Remote work allows employees to work from a location of their choice, usually at home but also at a coffee shop or co working space. Some remote roles are completely location independent, while others may require occasional in-person meetings or be in the same country or time zone as the employer. Remote working offers a different lifestyle and has been proven to increase productivity and happiness.
According to the details of the hybrid work model, there have difference between remote working environment & hybrid working environment.
Types of Hybrid Work Models
1. Remote first Hybrid Work Model
A remote-first hybrid work model is an organizational which encourages to employees for work from home most of the time while requiring them to regularly travelling to their workplace.
For example, if the team members may not have to easy access to transportation or if that employee have childcare responsibilities and appreciate the flexibility of being able to work remotely most of the time while still enjoying the occasional office day.

2. Flexible Hybrid Work Model
The flexible hybrid work model is which is allows for a variety of working arrangements, including remote, in-office, and hybrid work. Which based on mutual understanding of the organization.
The flexible hybrid model is designer to employees to fulfill the requirements while giving equivalent open doors to all specialists. This approach is best for normal work, which gives colleagues more independence in picking when, where, and how they work best.
3. Office first Hybrid Work Model
Employees must be physically present at the office on specific days or for agreed events of the organization, but at other days they can work in home or remotely. This model works best for organizations where face-to-face interaction is an important element of their culture.
The office-first hybrid working model gives employees some flexibility to choose when and where they work, while ensuring core team activities remain on-site. Employers should be intentional about designing the office experience while being flexible about tasks that employees can perform from anywhere.
Advantage of the Hybrid Work Place
Hybrid working offers employees greater flexibility in terms of when and where they work, helping them balance work and personal commitments more easily.
This approach also recognizes that everyone has their own optimal pace of productivity. Some people may be most productive in the early morning and late evening, while others may benefit more from a flexible schedule that allows them to start work later in the morning to fit in with their after-school routine.
As technology advancement, fewer office staff are sitting at desks in central offices all day, five days a week. Many believe this way of working is outdated and harmfully or decrease to employee productivity and well-being.
Businesses that have adjust to the hybrid working models which were more resilient because they have made structural changes to accommodate different ways of working.
There are interpersonal and psychological benefits to hybrid working models, which research has found that trust and psychological safety are harder to develop in fully face-to-face workplaces. Many employees are finding that remote and hybrid working promotes inclusivity, further supporting business flexibility.
A hybrid work model can minimize the resources spent maintaining the job site. Nearly three-quarters (74%) of Fortune 500 CEOs plan to reduce their office footprint, while 80% of CFOs surveyed said they are emphasizing hybrid work
.
For example, many hybrid organizations are transforming offices into co working-style spaces. This type of collaborative space isn't for everyone, so you don't need to have a desk for everyone in your organization, thus cutting down on expenses.
When you offer remote work options, you can support environmental, social and governance (ESG) initiatives by reducing your real estate and commuting carbon footprint.

Stress and Burnout
When talking about the challenges of hybrid working, most of researchers has been proved that hybrid working is tired for them. The environment puts stress on employees. One of the reasons why hybrid work is so exhausting being overworked can lead to poor work-life balance.
In this work model which is lead and it is difficult to maintain relationship with your co-workers within the organization. The reduced in person interaction may lead to poor interpersonal relationship & health connects with peers.
There are few steps can taken the organization to connect the remote employees for certain events and for strong collaboration
Technology : Workplace technology needs to support work in all environments. Make sure provide high-quality video and audio equipment for on-site and remote employees.
Communication tools : Provide employees with chat tools such as Zoom, MS teams. They will ensure that people can stay connected and collaborate with each other no matter where they are.
Inclusion Policies and Practices: Develop best practices and guidelines for inclusion-focused meetings. For example, encourage on-site leaders to pause during Zoom calls to ask remote participants if they have questions or need anything to add. ( Alkoud,2023)
The employees who is working outside of office can have risks from cyber security . It happens when employee use personal computers and unsecured networks for work . Employee isolation and disconnection: By hybrid working model , the employees who work in office can motivate daily to work more . But the employees work from home can feel lonely and disconnected which could affect their work performance and overall well being.
With more flexible schedules, team's availability may be different. Without a simple and consistent way to manage schedules, you could face resource problems and confusion about who's on-site. To prevent this, establish clear policies for scheduling. By having a structured schedule and good communication, employees will feel more confident meeting on-site to collaborate.
Hybrid work models not be suitable for every industries. Considering the organization requirement , their staff need to be perform whatever the situation happen in the organization. For an example in the manufacturing organization, healthcare sector employee need to report to work. Therefore this concept is not applicable for all the industries. This concept is best for the IT,customer service organization, who ever doing the technology based organization. Further no matter whatever the industry and size, if the organization could create the hybrid work policy whenever the situation happen it could be implemented.
Example for Hybrid work model in Global Context
In the Microsoft work place allows to their employees can work from home up to 50% of the time after agreeing on their new hybrid schedule with their manager's agreement. Anything above 50% is considered a home office setup and will have different eligibility criteria in the pre setup scheduled because of the their work hour are flexibility is standard for the most of roles and do the workday according to their preference's and needs.
Apple recently implemented a hybrid work policy, and it has taken a relatively strict approach to hybrid work. Monday, Tuesday and Thursday are regular on-site hours, but employees keep putting them off.
3. Google
Google employees also benefit from hybrid workplaces, with the company typically targeting three days in the office. The good news is that allocating remote work time is up to the individual manager and his or her team members.Remote workers won't disappear, however, as Google expects a certain percentage of employees to never return to the office, pending approval.
4. Dell
According to (international finance, 2024) have mentioned Dell company has change their remote working policy, full remote worker not eligible for the internal promotion. According to their policy there are categorized full remote workers & hybrid workers.
Remote worker- no any career advancement in Dell
Hybrid Worker - Present work at least 3 days per week
Base on these category employee may having unsure of the job security & damage for their work life balance.

Best practices to include when developing a hybrid work model are:
- Get employees to buy early : There should be clear communication channel to employee
- Invest for right tools, technology and equipment : As a employer should be facilitated to their employee well equipment for their operational work. Those should be ensure of the healthy and safety equipment.
- Focus on the employee experience and maintain a positive, engaged culture- During the work time employer and employee should be in good communication channel to admitting the their work via conference meeting.
- Track employee goals and performance metrics- Employee should be ensure the company has been the monitored the performance even their work in remotely.
Hybrid work model or Remote work model suit for business?
According to the statistic of the survey has found which model is better for organization. Survey statistic records found (Alkoud et at. 2022)
According to the survey research on 2023 Flexjob has found that 65% respondents said they would more prefer a hybrid work model in post pandemic.
Further a survey by PwC found that "55% of employees said they would prefer a hybrid work arrangement, while 68% of executives said they believe the hybrid model is here to stay."
Another survey by Microsoft found that 73% of staffs want flexible remote work options to continue, and 67% of workers say that they are more productive when they have the ability to work from home. (Above statistic referring of the Fly-desk)
Survey by Buffer found that 98% of remote workers would like to continue working remotely, at least some of the time, for the rest of their careers.
However, a survey by Owl Labs found that only 24% of remote workers would prefer to work from home full-time, while 76% said they would prefer to work in an office at least some of the time.
Challenges of HR & Role of HR Manager in Hybrid & Remote Work Model

1. Recruitment process
- In traditional recruitment process would be easy for attract the talent candidate through in office model. But in the new work model attracting and identifying best and potential candidate in virtual workplace is challenging, because HR person should creatively manage the recruitment strategy for this virtual team.
2. Virtual Onboarding
This is also critical function for HR person, because which not easy like once doing in face to face onboarding to in office peoples. Virtual onboarding ,which is involving the using of the technological tools. Employee and employer also challenging for doing and need to be ready to accept the technology skills and improving for that. HR manager should be technically sound of that work model. Employer should be clearly communicated the "what, how , why " those expectation of employer while do emphasizing the company values.
3. Performance Management
If the traditional performance method would not be practical for the hybrid and remote workplace. Because in office performance evaluation doing with closely monitoring part with assign the department head. But in here sometime its harder the monitor the job tasks because of the physical absence. HR person should be prepare the evaluation procedure for virtual team with regularly or once week monitoring part.
4. Employee Well being & Engagement
Employee well being is important to virtual team and hybrid working team. Because they are not having physical interaction with each person, that will issues lead to the isolation, stress etc. Therefore HR team should be involve the make special attention for those team by arranging virtual activities & discussion. Physical Well being should be ensure by the employer, provide the necessary infrastructures facilitates reducing ergonomic problem.
5. Creating strong work policy & Communicate effectively
Preparing the work policy is must because changing of the of work place model should be flexible for the every employees with clear communication. If not they may frustrations & not having good impression , and not having trust of the company
Role of HR Managers as would be more advance because of the technological intervention is high . Therefore HR team should be technically sound for operating on day today operation.
1. Using the and gain knowledge for working with Cloud base HR system

3. Implementing the Data Security and data protection protocols/ procedures
